Responsibilities

As an Earth Science Social Media and Web Producer, you will work with JPL's Earth Public Engagement and NASA’s thematic Earth communications team to sustain and grow the social media presence and digital products for NASA Earth Science and JPL Earth Science missions.

Social Media

  • Co-lead NASA Earth social media efforts on a variety of platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr

  • Manage social media content calendar and cross-center collaboration. Experience with Sprinklr a plus.

  • Develop and manage creation of products or activities for social media platforms

  • Reporting and analyzing traffic metrics and providing input to the NASA Earth communications team

Digital Content

  • Plan, coordinate, and create written and visual content including but not limited to videos, articles, web pages, shareable images, animated gifs, etc.

Web

  • Manage website content development, editing and maintenance:

  • Regularly review of news updates, pages, navigation, and use of mission websites.

Print Product Development

  • Provide content, creative direction and expertise to develop print products, with missions team members and communications staff.

Public Engagement

  • Represent JPL/NASA communication initiatives at outreach events and professional conferences when necessary.

Planning and Development

  • Plan coordinated messaging and activities with a vast network of stakeholders.

Interface with Stakeholders

  • Collaborate across diverse teams, to create innovative new initiatives that lead to expanded impact.

  • Serve as an interface with stakeholders at Headquarters and other NASA centers and with university and science center partners as necessary.

  • Practice good stakeholder management (attending regular meetings, etc.).

  • Research industry best practices and provide ongoing improvements to public engagement programs and products.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related discipline with a minimum of 6 years of related experience; Master's degree in similar disciplines with a minimum of 4 years of related experience; or PhD with 2 years of experience in similar disciplines.

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Experience with video editing software (Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro) a plus.

  • Proven experience in multiple social media platforms or as a digital media specialist.

  • Background and/or understanding of Earth and climate science is preferred.

  • Excellent writing, editing (photo/video/text), digital content creation, presentation and communication skills.

  • Proven experience in developing collaborations across a diverse set of communications teams leading to innovative outcomes and products.
